We @Nisargamitra Panvel invite you for a Women's Day Special one day Trek to Avchitgad Fort on 4th March 2018 (Sunday).
Avchitgad Fort (किल्ले अवचितगड) :
Height : 977 ft
Type : Hill fort
Place : Roha region
Grade : Easy
Avchitgad is situated near Roha in the Raigad district. Pengalsai/Medha are the base village of this fort. The fort is spread on an area on hill top which has a shape of horse shoe.
This fort is believed to be built by Shilahar kings and subsequently used by the Nizam of Ahmednagar. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj also believed to have reconstructed this fort. The work was carried out in a hurry and hence the name 'Avchit' (hurry) 'gad' (fort).
The approximate height of this fort is 977 feet. It is a easy trek through the jungle up to the fort which takes about an one & half hour to climb. From atop the fort one can have a beautiful view of the neighboring forts of Telbaila, Sarasgad, Sudhagad, Raigad. On the southern side there is citadel. On the western side of the citadel, there are 7 small water cisterns on the western side. Among-st these cisterns there is a shrine dedicated to maharaj Shivaji's Sardar Baji Pasalkar.
The main entrance to the fort is still in better condition. The bastion on the way from Medhe was much better for keeping a watch on the surrounding region. As we proceed further from the main entrance, we come across the remnants of old constructions on a neighbouring hillock.
Near the second entrance there is a lake. The water is potable here. Near to it is a statue of Lord Khandoba. The fort is not much wide, but stretches long enough.
