About Sandhan Valley
Sandhan Valley, also known as Valley of suspense or Valley of Shadow, is one of the greatest canyons in the splendid setting of Sahyadri (Western Ghats). The water carved valley is 200 ft deep and about 1.5 long. Sandhan valley is located on the western side of the beautiful Bhandardara region, near Samrad village.

The valley is surrounded with mighty Alang, Madan and Kulang (Known as AMK- rated as the toughest trek in Sahyadri) Ratangad, Ajoba & Kalsubai (5400 ft. highest peak in Maharashtra) mountain ranges. The brilliant and deep narrow rock floored ravine is located between the two high walls of mountain range. At some places, its width is less than 3 ft and at some places sun rays unable to reach the ground. Which gives it the name: valley of shadow.

To go at end of gorge you have cross 2 to 3 water pools, water level changes per season. In winter water is up to waist and in summer it is up to knee high level. At the end of valley, you get magnificent view of high cliffs and deep valleys. You have to rappel down 3-4 small patches (max height. 40ft) to reach base of Sandhan Valley. Very few people have taken up this phase as it is considered to be very tough.

About Ratangad
Ratan means Jewel in Hindi. This hill fort is indeed jewel in all the hill forts here in Sahyadri. It is in the district of Ahmednagar and is located about 4255 feet above sea level. It lies in the Ajoba mountain range surrounded by great mountains of Kulang, Madan, Alang, Kalsubai, Katarabai, Ajoba and Ghanchakkar. Geographically Ratangad is At the Bank of Bhandardara Lake of Ahmednagar district. With views of lake and highest mountains in Sahyadris looks very much lost in time.

Ratangad has still the remains of fortress with bastions And Stone Walls. Caves on the top is cut from the rock face and can easily accomodate 25 people at a time. Water Cistems are usually filled with water throughout the year and trekkers use them as water source. Eastern side of the fort has some fortification left; one can see Rani mahal here. From the southern side on can see Katrabai and Ajoba Fort very close. This side has also some fortification left, but most of it is damaged. Climbing up on the northern side, one can see natural orifice (hole in rock, locally called nedhe) in the rock face, mostly made by wind. This orifice is big enough to be seen from base of the fort and can accommodate about 6-7 people at a time. Strong winds can be experienced at this orifice. Climbing down the nedhe to the western end of the fort leads closest to the Khutta Pinnacle via Tyimbak Darwaja.

Ancient Amruteshwar Temple
At the base of this fort is ancient Lord Shiva (Amruteshwar) temple. About 1000 years old temple of Lord Shiva, the Amruteshwar Temple at Ratanwadi, is an absolute paragon of high class architecture of our ancestors.
